RADOIR NEWS_ Dr. Hamidreza Edraki, Head of Radiology Department of “15 Khordad” hospital stated: “Today, MRI techniques are applied for many common cases, such as diagnosis of the diseases in fetus during pregnancy.
Using MRI during the 1st three months of pregnancy is prohibited, indeed as it can affect embryonic germ cells. Thus, it will be harmless to use MRI, afterwards. Congenital disorders are easily diagnosed by MRI and a team including radiologist, Neurosurgeon, gynecologist will control and manage it during the pregnancy and later on. He added: “this study aims to prevent delivering babies with brain congenital conditions and control them before or at the time of birth.” This method has been tried on 137 cases with suspected sonography and screening results among which Hydrocephalus (27), Atrophy and Hypoxia (10), Arachnoid cyst (10), abdominal Papilloma (8), Encephalopathy (5), Joubert (5), Craniosynostosis(3), AVM & AVF (2), Hemangioma Cavernous (1), Pineal Germinoma(1), Rathke cyst(1), Huntington (1) and Astrocytoma (1), cases were identified. Applying Fetal MRI at the appropriate time can be a perfect method to diagnose brain congenital disorders, hopefully.
Dr.Edraki indicated that the research took 2 years to be finalized and the result was presented at 2018 ECRD held in Vienna, Auetria.
