Scientific meeting was held around Rare Diseases by presence of specialist from different countries at Esteghlal Hotel.
The meeting was held by efforts of the development and research section of the Rare Diseases Foundation of Iran. Specialists in the country and abroad in the field of genetics and Rare Diseases participated and gave speech about Rare Diseases Patients’ needs and problems.
At the begging of this meeting, Dr. Ali Davoudian the Managing Director of the Foundation meanwhile introducing the foundation and its forming talked about national and international activities in the recent years include screening, healing prescriptions for Ramadan, free consulting for menopause, providing medical services for rare diseases patients. He added International activities like collaborating and communicating with European Rare Diseases organizations and alliances, Moreover, presence of the foundation at the United Nations committee for Rare Diseases.
To the continue of this meeting, Dr. Hamidreza Edraki, radiologist, and the prominent member of the Foundation faculty, gave an speech in English about modern technology in Imaging provided for rare diseases patients in Iran.
Dr. Edraki added: “There are about 6000 rare diseases all over the world, and 58 types are identified in Iran. Studying about collecting data of the prevalence and distribution of these diseases will help finding the root of them.
He said:” 40 percent of rare diseases with genetic causes are diagnosed, but the rest have been misdiagnosed yet.
