On the initiative of the Rare Disease Foundation of Iran and in collaboration with the Rare Diseases Europe (EURORDIS), a non-governmental patient-driven alliance of rare disease patient organizations, a rare diseases committee was established at the United Nations Headquarters in New York.
The decision was made following the EURORDIS conference on November 2 in Paris, which was attended by 63 representatives from rare disease foundations across the world, ISNA reported.
The committee would be in charge of updating policies, increasing existing capacities, and facilitating networking among the member states in order to step up services for patients with rare diseases.
