Ichthyosis disease is a family of rare genetic skin disorders characterized by dry, thickened and scaly skin that may be thickened or very thin.
The prefix “ichthy” is taken from the Greek root for the word fish and this word is used for this disease because the thick skin sometimes has the appearance of fish scales. The main cause of this order is the genetic mutation that is passed down from parents to children. Major types of this disorder include:
- Ichthyosis Vulgaris
- Ichthyosis Lamellar
Most types of this disorder are considered as very rare diseases. Ichthyosis patients are defenseless vis-à-vis warmth and the sun and because of thickness of their skin, they are facing problems in their movements to some extent.
Presently Mr. Kaveh Khadem Hussein is discharging his responsibilities as the Secretary of the Ichthyosis Society of Iran.
